Introducing UNNU Handmade
UNNU handmade is a small eco home and lifestyle brand creating fabric art and turning it into handmade gifts, outfit accessories and home decor.
Earlier this year I was working on pattern collections to present to fabric stores and although I was enjoying the design and illustration process it wasn’t feeling right from a sustainable standpoint.
I read yesterday that there is enough clothing in the world right now to outfit the next SIX generations!
There is already sooo much out there in the way of fabric from rolls upon rolls of deadstock sitting in warehouses, old bed sheets and of course, used clothing. I search flee markets for fabric rolls and second hand shops for linen clothing. For example the orange fabric above was from a shirt that I made into five UNNU sacks.
By using Linocut printing methods I’m still able to design patterns but in a much more sustainable way, as all the fabric I use already exists. Taking something that may be destined for the landfill and making it beautiful and useful. I have started making handbags and purses as well and plan to keep expanding my offerings in the home and lifestyle spaces.
